A San Francisco gay-rights icon has been arrested on child pornography charges, according to reports.

SF Weekly first reported the arrest of Larry Brinkin, 66, who for 22 years has sat on the city's Human Rights Commission. Brinkin was arrested Friday night by San Francisco police for allegedly sending and receiving "graphic" images depicting children "as young as 2 or 3 years old being sodomized and performing oral sex on adult men, in e-mail attachments linked to his account," the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Brinkin is free on bail. He did not comment to media.

According to police, Brinkin used an AOL email address, Zack3737@aol.com, to send the images. AOL workers came across the images and reported them to police, the Chronicle reported.

Brinkin is registered as the AOL user and his credit card was used to pay for the account, the newspaper reported.

The District Attorney's Office is expected to file charges Tuesday.

As a member of the HRC, Brinkin was active in gay rights and helped to author the city's landmark Equal Protection Ordinance.
