Golden Gate Bridge Repaving Project Fails, Shuts Down Lanes

Drivers headed into the city on the Golden Gate Bridge are experiencing long delays

People driving across the Golden Gate Bridge found a traffic mess Tuesday after two lanes of the bridge had to be closed for emergency repairs.

Golden Gate Bridge District spokeswoman Mary Currie said crews repaved a section of the bridge's western edge overnight and something went wrong.

The new asphalt started to crumble during the morning commute and needs to be redone.

The lanes where the problem occurred will have to be repaved again overnight Tuesday.

The lanes are expected to be closed to traffic until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Drivers coming in from Marin will see the biggest impact. That includes anyone coming into San Francisco for Tuesday night's Giants game at AT&T Park.
