Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart Wanted for Assault

Former Dead drummer in trouble with the law in Kentucky.

Don't arrest Mickey.

The former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart is wanted for alleged assault in Kentucky, where he is accused of hitting a man after a concert, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

On Sept. 8, a man filed a police report following a Mickey Hart Band concert in Harrodsburg, Ky., the newspaper reported. TMZ first reported that Hart is accused of assaulting the man.

Details are not available from authorities, as police could not release paperwork and the local County Attorney could not be reached.

For his part, Hart says he is "baffled by a bizarre claim of an assault," the newspaper reported.

"I played drums on 'Shakedown Street,' but I never expected to be 'The Victim or the Crime,'" Hart said via email from outside Sebastopol, where he makes his home.

Hart was the Dead's drummer from the 1960s until Jerry Garcia's death in 1995, according to reports.
