Great America Pays Tribute to Soldiers

Memorial day messages through the park

You can't miss them.

Giant Humvees passed by everyone on Monday on their way into California's Great America in Santa Clara. Parents, aided by military personnel, happily lifted their children into the military vehicles, and the message is clear: Take a minute to recognize why we celebrate this Memorial Day holiday, with some of the soldiers who make it possible.

Great America decorated the park with patriotic colors and posters, and opened things with its choir - flanked by soldiers - singing "God Bless America." A fitting way to recognize the sacrifice, says Private First Class Nhuy Cao, who says, "I feel appreciated. It's nice to recognize my brothers and sisters away from home."

In addition to the visuals, Great America let soliders in for free. That was good news for retired PFC Albert Meza, who brought his family down from Sacramento. "It's cool to see the honors," he said. "I got a lot of buddies we lost, so it's good to remember them."

A good Memorial Day reminder - have fun, but also remember those who make days like this possible.
