Great America Poised to Unveil Thrilling 4D Ride ‘Mass Effect'

Video game sales have been slumping lately, so Electronic Arts, publisher of the big seller “Mass Effect” has an idea: Get you off the couch, and into a vibrating chair.

“Mass Effect” is now a ride at Great America. It opens Wednesday and NBC Bay Area got a preview ride.

Think of it as a video game, on steroids.

“This really, wow, all I can say is wow, really,” says one gamer (and now rider) .

It’s a cool experience that even pumps the smell of burning metal from your chair into your face when your ship crashes.

EA knows it needs to mix things up, and maybe a giant screen with 4D graphics is the way.

“This does things you can’t do in your home with an Xbox or PS-4,” says EA’s Patrick O’Brien. “Here, you have hydraulics in the seat, and a 50-foot screen.”

Everything you might need to take a summer day away from your couch, but not away from your favorite video game.
