Groundbreaking on $82 Million Google Jet Terminal This Month

Work to begin soon on San Jose airport's center for Google's private planes.

Google's foray into the private plane business is taking off.

Construction has already begun, but Signature Flight Support's official groundbreaking for the $82 million terminal for private planes at Mineta San Jose International Airport won't happen until Feb. 28, according to the Business Times.

Private jet service for Google employees will follow.

Demolition has already begun at the site, most of which has already been leased to a company that manages private air travel for top-ranking Google execs, the newspaper reported.

Blue City Holdings is Google's spin-off company for its executive jet efforts. Google has also inked a deal to use runway space at NASA's nearby Moffett Field.

A competing company, operating at the airport currently, tried to challenge the deal but failed.

Construction could take as long as two years, the newspaper reported.
