Guilty Verdict for Killer of Homeless Addict

Gruesome killing ends in guilty verdict for San Francisco D.A.

A San Francisco jury has convicted a homeless man named Anthony Marks in the stomping death of a person he used to share a camp site with in a parking lot on Harrison Street.

Marks had confessed to killing Robin Kent, but his lawyers argued it was done in the heat of passion and should have been tried as a case of voluntary manslaughter instead of murder. Kent was a known crack addict who lived on the streets.

After a week long trial, the jury found Marks guilty of second degree murder.

The case shows that San Francisco sees all people as equal under the law.

"Just because Robin Kent was homeless and addicted to crack cocaine does not mean she is not entitled to justice," said District Attorney George Gascon.  "The six foot one-inch Anthony Marks deserves to be held accountable for stomping and beating a 98 pound woman to death.  We charged this case because San Franciscans should know that we are determined to bring such brutal, savage killers to justice regardless a victim’s station in life."

Gason credited the investigation of San Francisco Police Department Inspector Robert Lynch. He also praised Assistant District Attorney Scot Clark for prosecuting the case.  Gascon mentioned his appreciation to victim witness advocate Martine Barbier and District Attorney Investigator Robert Guzman for thier help in the process.

Marks faces 15 years to life in state prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in late August.
