Hayward Officers Shoot Man Using RV as Weapon: Police

An man who Hayward police said used an RV as a weapon against police officers and civilians Saturday night is recovering from being shot by police.

At 9:17 p.m., officers responded to Tennyson Park at 28151 Huntwood Ave., where a park ranger had requested emergency assistance, police said.

When the officers arrived, the suspect allegedly started to use his RV as a weapon against them and several people at a nearby party.

Multiple police officers shot the suspect, leaving him with non-life-threatening injuries. He is in stable condition at a hospital.

Neighbors were shaken up by the incident.

"We heard like a screeching," witness Leslie Melo said. "My mom turned off the lights because she was scared."

When police arrived, the RV driver tried to get away. He initially hit one car then slammed into a row of cars, creating a domino effect of wreckage, police said. Witnesses said the police fired a flurry of shots at the suspect.

"It was not just one shot; it was a lot, and then I fell to the floor," neighbor Maria Ramirez said.

Police eventually pulled the man from the RV and arrested him.

Anyone who witnessed the incident has been asked to call Hayward police Detective Jason Mosby at (510) 293-7034, or email haywardpdtips@hayward-ca.gov.
