Hayward Police Officer Killed: Surveillance Video Shows Car Seen Near Suspect's Oakland Home

Hayward police released surveillance video Thursday related to the shooting death of Sgt. Scott Lunger.

Investigators want to locate a light-colored, four-door sedan seen in the video then speak with the driver and any passengers. The car was seen about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning near the suspect's Oakland home in the area of 107th Avenue and Beverly Street.

Authorities said they hope releasing the video will lead to answers in the officer’s killing.

"Either it fits in the puzzle in the case or we eliminate and we move on to the next thing," Hayward Police Sgt. Ryan Cantrell said.

Anyone who recognizes the vehicle is asked to contact the Hayward Police Department.

Sgt. Lunger was killed Wednesday during a traffic stop.

Suspect Mark Anhony Estrada was taken into custody late Thursday and transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin after being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Investigators said Lunger's partner fired several rounds into the truck Estrada was allegedly driving.

Estrada's attorney, Richard Pointer, on Thursday released the following statement from the suspect's family: "They ask that not judgement be passed until the entire case is before a court of law."

Lunger's funeral is tentatively scheduled for July 29.
