Hayward Police Searching for Suspect in Kidnapping Attempt

Hayward police say a 15-year-old girl on Friday escaped a man who was trying to pull her into his car as she walked home from school.

The girl was walking in the 24000 block of Whitman Avenue around 4 p.m. when she was approached by a white male who tried to pull her into his vehicle, police said.

The girl was able to fight back and escape to a neighbor's house nearby.

The suspect, who was not known to the girl, fled the area and was not located by police in a search of the area.

The suspect is described as a white male adult in his 20s with a tan complexion, short brown hair, a scruffy short beard and no mustache. He was around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 to 150 pounds with a skinny build. He was wearing a gray shirt, black knee length shorts, orange athletic shorts and sandals.

He was last seen driving a white sedan, described as a newer model white four-door Honda Civic, with a light-blue dealer plate on the rear.

The incident was similar to another attempted kidnapping that occurred in Hayward two weeks ago.

In that incident, on Feb. 20, a 14-year-old girl was walking home from school in the area of Ebony Way and Joshua Street around 3 p.m. when she was approached by a man who tried to pull her into his vehicle.

The victim in that incident was also able to escape, and the suspect, who was unknown to the victim, could not be located.

The suspect in that incident was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 to 160 pounds, clean-shaven, dark eyes, wavy brown hair and a medium to dark complexion.

He was last seen wearing a green hoodie, black knee-length shorts and black athletic socks. He was driving a white sedan.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call Hayward police at 510-293-7000.
