A former gubernatorial counterpart to Arnold Schwarzenegger is using the news that he fathered a secret love child to tell all men to keep their pants zipped.
Ex-Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm sent her message in the form of a Tweet and in those 140 characters she also found room to use the infidelity as a reason to get more females in state governor's offices.
GovGranholm tweeted:
Another guy guv admits 2 cheating on his wife. Maybe we need more women governors. Guys: keep ur pants zipped, for Pete's sake. #Arnold
Notice the hash tag.
Granholm clearly wanted folks to see her thoughts on the matter. A former press secretary for the governor confirmed to AP that it was Granholm herself who typed the Tweet.
The LA Times broke the story early Tuesday that Schwarzenegger fathered a child of a long time housekeeper ten years ago.
Schwarzenegger acknowledged the child and the story in a statement:
"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry. I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."
Granholm and Schwarzenegger served as governors in the same era. Granholm was the governor of Michigan from 2003 through last year. She is a regular on NBC's Meet the Press.
