High Temperatures Expected to Hit Bay Area This Week

The Bay Area Quality Management District has also issued a Spare the Air alert for Tuesday, the fourth such alert issued this month for unhealthy air conditions.

Hot weather is expected this week in the Bay Area, especially in the inland valleys and hills, according to the National Weather Service.

Weather officials issued a hazardous weather outlook Sunday morning for the East Bay interior valleys, East Bay hills, the southern Salinas Valley, the Santa Lucia Mountains, the Los Padres National Forest and interior Monterey County.

Temperatures in these areas will range from the mid 90s to 107 degrees.

The high temps prompted The Bay Area Quality Management District to issue a Spare the Air alert for Tuesday, the fourth such alert issued this month for unhealthy air conditions.

"Another heat wave serves as a reminder that we need to commute smarter every day to reduce smog and traffic gridlock," air district executive officer Jack Broadbent said in a statement.

The heat also poses a risk to the health of people who are sensitive to hot weather, according to weather officials. Residents of the affected areas are urged to drink plenty of water and to stay inside during the afternoon when the temperatures will be the highest.

Avoid leaving pets and children in parked vehicles.

The heat this week will increase the risk of wildfires and brush fires, weather officials said.

In San Jose, firefighters said they are especially worried about the next few days with the dry brush getting drier and temperatures nearing the 90s in the area.
