High Wind and Fire Advisories in Place for Bay Area

Weather officials Saturday afternoon issued a warning that conditions are developing in the North and East Bay hills that could cause rapid wildfire growth should a fire start.

The red flag warning goes into effect at 6 p.m. Saturday evening and lasts until 10 a.m. Sunday, National Weather Service officials said.

High wind advisories are also in effect Saturday evening for the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge and Bay Bridge, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Strong northeast winds in the North and East Bay hills will start Saturday evening and last through Sunday morning with gusts of 50 mph possible, NWS officials said.

CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said the winds are especially strong on the Bay Bridge.

The area will also see low humidity and the strong winds combined with dry fuels may cause extreme fire behavior, according to NWS officials.
