Hiker Finds Plane Crash From 1971 in Sierra Nat'l Park

Fresno County Search and Rescue responded to the scene of a plane crash that occurred in 1971.

Fresno County Search and Rescue responded to the scene of a plane crash that occurred in 1971.

Sunday morning, a hiker looking for Horse Thief Lake, in the Sierra National Forest came across the crash site.

The hiker took still photos and contacted the Sierra rangers to report the find.

The site was reported to be several years old. The rangers then contacted the Sheriff's Office.

The word "NAVY" appears to be on part of the wreckage.

The Sheriff's Office contacted the NTSB, FAA, and military and confirmed the wreckage had been located on a prior occasion.
