Holiday Project May Have Sparked San Jose House Fire, 3 Injured

A holiday project may be to blame for a house fire in San Jose.

The fire started at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday at a home on Coastland Avenue, near the Willow Glen Shopping Center.

"At the time of the fire, it appears they were making some candles on the stovetop and that candle wax got to it's ignition temperature and caused the fire which then extended to the cabinets," San Jose Fire Department Capt. Reggie Williams said. "Unfortunately for us, we see this quite a bit with the new Christmas trees and some of the new activities that take place during the holidays."

Crews controlled the fire in about 45 minutes.

All three people in the home were injured, and one was treated for serious burns.

Red Cross is working to find the family temporary housing.
