Home Invasion Case Turns to Homicide

Home Invasion Case Turns to Homicide

Gilroy police are investigating the first homicide of the year.   They have actually been working the case since April 13, when someone broke into a home on the 1000 block of Montebello Drive and attacked two men.

One of the victims of what police are calling a home invasion died Sunday.  Police are not releasing the man's name, but say he was 75 years old.

He was found laying on a couch in the living room after police responded to a report of a disturbance.  He suffered severe head injuries.

Another man was found that same night nearby in the kitchen with serious leg injuries.  Police say both men were beaten with a baseball bat,

Doctors pronounced the older man dead at 9:50 a.m. Sunday.  Gilroy police say his death marks the first homicide of the year for the South Bay city.

Police said they have been actively working the case since it happened.  They aren't releasing any details as to motive, but say they are confident the victims were targeted in a focused and directed attack.
