Homelessness Nonprofit to Receive Grant From Fund Created by Amazon CEO

Abode Services, a non-profit organization that provides services to end homelessness in the Bay Area, announced Tuesday that it will receive a $5 million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund.

Abode is one of 24 initial nonprofits in the U.S. to receive a total of $97.5 million in grants from the fund, which was created by Amazon Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos and his wife Mackenzie Bezos.

"This grant moves Abode that much closer to accomplishing its goals," Abode Services Executive Director Louis Chicoine said in a news release.

The organization's goals include "providing a home to everyone who doesn't have one, and ensuring that families in need remain in stable, safe housing," Chicoine said.

Abode provides services including housing, employment and financial counseling, and advocacy on homelessness issues in Alameda, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo and Napa counties.
