Honoring Vets: Bay Area Veterans Day Events

Veterans Day honors military veterans who have served our country.We've compiled a list of Bay area events occurring on Friday:

8 a.m.: Breakfast for military veteran and families, sponsored by Opening Doors 2020, 304 N. Sixth St., San Jose.

9 a.m.: Milpitas Veterans Day Ceremony, Veterans Plaza at Milpitas City Hall, 455 E. Calaveras Blvd., Milpitas.

9:30 a.m.: Musical performances to kick off Marin County Veterans Day activities. The official ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Marin Center, 10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael.

10 a.m.: Redwood City Veterans Day ceremony, actual ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Courthouse Square, 2200 Broadway, Redwood City.

10:30 a.m. Ceremony to kick off Santa Clara County Veterans Day activities. Events include a parade starting at noon, sponsored by the United Veterans Council of Santa Clara County.

Ceremony at Market Street and Plaza de Cesar Chavez, San Jose.

Veterans Day Program sponsored by the San Ramon Valley’s Combined Veterans Service Organization (VSO). San Ramon Valley High School, 501 Danville Blvd., Danville.

11 a.m.: Castro Valley Veterans Day Program, Veterans Memorial, Castro Valley Community Park, 18988 Redwood Road, Castro Valley.

Veterans Day Ceremony including display of a model of a future memorial to Oakland residents killed in the Vietnam War. Includes an address by Army Veteran Daniel Helix, now head of men’s programs for the bay area rescue mission. Veterans Memorial Building, 200 Grand Avenue, Oakland.

Meet and greet with former University of California and NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, a benefit for Lynch’s Fam First Foundation that aims to empower, build self-esteem and teach academic learning skills among under-privileged youth. Cookiebar Creamery, 517 Eighth St., Oakland.

Walnut Creek Veterans Day Ceremony. Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek.

Concord Veterans Day Ceremony, sponsored by VFW Post 1525 and the cities of Concord and Clayton. Followed by the fourth annual Veterans Day Invitational Softball Tournament. Willow Pass Park, 2748 E. Oliviera Rd., Concord.

Veterans Day Program aboard the USS Hornet Museum, 505 Hornet Ave., Pier 3, Alameda.

Noon: Parade starts at West Santa Clara Street and Notre Dame Avenue, with a viewing stand near the Tech Museum, 201 S. Market St., San Jose.

Ceremony at the SAP Center, 525 W. Santa Clara St., San Jose.

Three-day “Pop Up” Museum honoring Korean War Veterans. Friday through Sunday. Veterans Memorial Building, 400 Hartz Ave., Danville.

SCU's Campus Ministry, the Bronco Battalion (ROTC), and the Student Veterans Support Coordination Team will hold a wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial.

12:45 p.m. Santa Clara Chamber Singers mini-concert at the Benson Center.

1 p.m. Petaluma North Bay Veterans Day Parade, the largest Veterans Day parade in Northern California. Starts at Walnut Park, Petaluma Boulevard and D Street. Petaluma.

 2 p.m. Honor on The Row in Santana Row in San Jose. The event will feature a Gold Star Memorial to honor the fallen, a display of military vehicles and classic cars, a Care Package Collection Booth sponsored by The Cost of Courage Foundation, as well as participation from several community and Veteran organizations.

4 p.m. Rededication Ceremony of the San Franciscans that lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Ceremony will take place in the lobby of the SF Veterans Building, 401 Van Ness in San Francisco across from City Hall.

5:15 p.m. Veterans Day vigil at the Crosses of Lafayette, sponsored by the Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center, the Crosses of Lafayette and others. Crosses of Lafayette, North of the Lafayette BART station.3601 Deer Hill Rd, Lafayette.
