Jack-Knifed Big Rig Spills Diesel on 880, Into Creek: CHP

A jack-knifed big rig spilled diesel onto to Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland on Monday, snarling the early morning commute.

The spill, reported just before 5 a.m. at Hegenberger Road, prompted the California Highway Patrol to issue a Sig-Alert. Hazmat crews shoveled absorbent to contain diesel from spilling into a nearby creek.

According to the CHP, Fish and Game wardens were called to check on the health of the creek. Spokeswoman Alexia Retallack told NBC Bay Area that none of the diesel made into the waterways of the bay.
