Journey Guitarist's Reality TV Wedding Causes Stir in Marina

Big-time wedding leads to closures, problems

A star-studded wedding in the Marina put the Palace of Fine Arts off-limits for the rest of the Bay Area and other visitors on Sunday.

Marina District visitors and residents were not thrilled to find the Palace -- where Journey guitarist Neal Schon was to wed Michaele Salahi, with the proceedings to be recorded on Pay-Per-View television -- roped off, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

Viewers paid $14.95 for the chance to hear Schon's band serenade the happy couple -- or, alternatively, they could set up on lawn chairs and listen to the music boom out across the pond and park.

The wedding was one of about 50 ceremonies that take place at the Roman-style pavilion each year, according to the newspaper.

Proceeds from the wedding were intended to go to typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines -- following the recoup of $243,000 in permit fees for the over 350 guests, the newspaper reported.
