Just Desserts Deserts Oakland for Fairfield

Just Desserts will move from Oakland to Fairfield to double the size of its production facility.

The move to Solano County will place the 41-year-old local company in a community with experienced industry workers; Fairfield is headquarters to food and beverage businesses like Jelly Belly, Anheuser Busch, Crystal Geyser and Sunnyside Farms, notes San Francisco Business Times.

"We chose Fairfield because of the value of real estate, the city's business-friendly environment, and the fact that the transportation lanes are attractive for shipping and transporting product," Just Desserts CEO Michael Mendes said in a statement to the publication.

This is the latest in a string of high-profile dessert companies who have left Oakland in the last several years, including the 2012 closure of Hostess and the 2008 shuttering of Mother's Cookies.
