La Boulange Set to Close All Cafes in Bay Area Starting Friday

A popular café in San Francisco is starting to shut down its many locations on Friday, after announcing that it could not keep the business going.

In June, Starbucks announced it will close all 23 La Boulange cafes over the next three weeks.

Starbucks spokesperson said La Boulange pastries will still be available for purchase at the coffee shop.

Leslie Gunn, who works above a La Boulange location in San Francisco, is sad to see the cafe close down.

"It's kind of sad," Gunn said. "One of the people that we know who has been there for the past few years almost kind of teared up a little bit. They're playing fun music in there today but definitely, it's like the end of an era."

Starbucks bought La Boulange three years ago and started the first location on Pine Street in San Francisco.

In addition to La Boulange, Starbucks is closing an Evolution Fresh retail location in San Francisco.
