Lack of San Jose Police Resources Prompt Family to Search for Stolen Truck

Joe and Nancy Carroll want their stolen Ford F-250 truck returned and are not waiting on an understaffed police department to find their vehicle.

The Carroll family said they know their stolen truck is not a high priority for the San Jose Police Department, which is why they are talking to the media, interviewing neighbors and turning to social media to help crack the case.

The Carrolls said the truck was stolen overnight last month -- moments after the couple claims police did not respond to a neighbor's report of suspicious activity.

"The truck isn't going to come back on its own," Joe Carroll said. "The police do not have the resources to do that."

The police department has one detective assigned to handle auto theft cases -- which is why Nancy Carroll decided to do her own investigating when police told her the truck was not only stolen, but spotted outside a home-invasion robbery in East San Jose.

"I was started walking and asking people who was burglarized on this street until I found one of the neighbors," Nancy Carroll said.

A neighbor who saw the home-invasion robbery took pictures and called 911. Police said one person was arrested in the case, but the driver of the truck got away.

A teen girl is seen in the passenger seat in some of the pictures taken at the incident, which adds to the Carrolls' concerns.

Now Nancy Carroll is hoping someone on Facebook will recognize the black truck or its driver.

While the Carrolls wait for more information, they are encouraging other neighbors to be more vigilant.

Police said they are investigating the case.
