Levi's Stadium to Host 2019 College Football National Championship Game

College football playoff officials selected Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara as the host for the 2019 College Football National Championship game set for Jan. 7, 2019, stadium officials said Wednesday.

The decision came after a 10-month bid process between nine communities including Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Houston, Minnesota, New Orleans, San Antonio and South Florida, according to stadium officials.

Atlanta will host the 2018 championship and New Orleans will host the 2020 championship, stadium officials said.

"We couldn't be more proud for Levi's Stadium to be selected as the host of the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2019, especially considering the outstanding competition we faced from the other eight host communities," San Francisco 49ers Chief Operating Officer Al Guido said in a statement.

Guido said in the statement that the announcement is significant because stadium officials designed the field to host national and international events. He added that the game has the potential to have economic impact of $139 million, which was the impact WrestleMania 31 brought to Santa Clara and the surrounding area.

The first college football playoff took place last year at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, between Ohio State and Oregon. This year's game will be held in Glendale, Arizona, and Tampa, Florida, will host the 2017 game.
