Los Altos Man Accused of Killing Co-Worker Appears in Court

A Los Altos man accused of killing his co-worker appeared in court Tuesday.

Steve Hlebo, who was escorted in court in handcuffs and spent a good part of his appearance speaking with his attorney, asked the judge for more time to get discovery before proceeding. The judge granted the request and Hlebo is scheduled to return to court on March 14.

Prosecutors allege Hlebo murdered Kyle Myrick on Jan. 22 at GP Sports in San Jose, where both the men worked.

Police said they found a gruesome scene in a building adjacent to GP Sports. Police also said they found evidence that a body had been dragged to a spot where earlier in the day Hlebo's truck had been parked.

Around 2 a.m. the next day, police discovered a significant amount of blood in the cab of Hlebo's truck.

Most of the courtroom on Tuesday was filled with Myrick's family and friends, who also hugged each other and cried outside of the courthouse.

In a jailhouse interview with NBC Bay Area, Hlebo insisted he is innocent and that he is being framed.

Hlebo's attorney said she is expecting a very lengthy case.

Myrick's family and friends who filled the courtroom on Tuesday said they were not ready to talk about the case.
