Man Arrested After Machete Attack on Acquaintance in Fremont

Fremont police arrested a man Sunday suspected of attacking and seriously injuring a man with a machete or large knife late Sunday morning, officers said.

Police received a call about 11 a.m. from a screaming woman who told police a member of her family had been attacked by a man with a machete inside a house on the 3000 block of Rockett Drive, near Central Park.

According to a social media post by Fremont police, officers arrived at that house to find a man with cuts and lacerations consistent with an attack with a machete-like weapon.

The victim was treated by Fremont Fire paramedics and then taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect apparently was acquainted with the victim.

Through investigative leads, the suspect was located in Union City. He was safely taken into custody without incident at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, police said. The weapon had not been found by Sunday night, police said.

Police did not release the suspect's name Sunday night. He was still being questioned, police said, and the suspect was expected to be booked into the Alameda County Jail late Sunday night.

Police are calling the incident an attempted homicide investigation, but charges had not been brought as of late Sunday night.
