Man Breaks Into Palo Alto Home While Family Sleeps

Police arrested a man on suspicion of burglarizing a Palo Alto house early this morning while the occupants were sleeping.

At 1:33 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Waverley Street where a resident reported he had heard noises, according to police.

The man secured his family in an upstairs room and when police arrived, the burglar fled, jumping over fences through residential backyards, according to police.

Officers searched the area and found him a short time later in the 200 block of Bryant Street.

Sergio Fuentas, a 22-year-old East Palo Alto resident, was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County's main jail on suspicion of burglary, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and probation violation.

Fuentas was on probation for burglary in San Mateo County.
