Man Caught Driving 145 MPH Gets DUI: CHP

A 21-year-old man ended up in jail after being caught speeding while driving under the influence of alcohol in Petaluma early this morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

CHP Officer Dave Stewart was using a handheld speed detection device on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near the Petaluma Boulevard North exit around 4 a.m. when he targeted an Infiniti G37 sedan traveling at an "extremely high rate of speed", Officer Marcus Hawkins said.

The speed detection device showed the driver had been speeding at roughly 145 miles per hour, according to the CHP.

The car slowed down and Stewart stopped it for the speeding violation.

During his investigation, it was determined that the driver, identified as David Adler of Rohnert Park, had been driving under the influence. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to county jail.
