Man Dies in Solo Motorcycle Crash on Highway 24

A motorcyclist died Saturday evening in Oakland when he crashed into tree, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash was first reported to the CHP at 6:54 p.m. on eastbound Highway 24 just west of state Highway 13, CHP Officer William Ogilvie said.

When responding officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist had crashed a Yamaha motorcycle and died in the crash.

Witnesses told officers that the man was driving on the highway when he veered suddenly to the right, off the road and into the tree.

CHP officials said it's too early to know why the motorcyclist made the unsafe maneuver. CHP officials do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash.
