Man Fatally Stabbed in San Jose

The stabbing was San Jose's 24th homicide of 2013

A 56-year-old man was fatally stabbed near his East San Jose home early this morning, a police spokesman said.

Police received a report of a stabbing in the 100 block of Checkers Drive, off of Alum Rock Avenue, at 12:37 a.m., San Jose police Officer Albert Morales said.

Officers arrived to find a man in front of a home suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim lived on that block, Morales said.

The man was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where he was pronounced dead just after 1:30 a.m., Morales said.

No suspects have been identified in the case and the motive for the stabbing remains under investigation.

The victim's name has not yet been released. Police initially said the victim was about 40 years old but later clarified that he was 56.

The killing marks San Jose's 24th homicide of 2013, according to police.
