Police found the body of a 68-year-old man behind a pizza parlor in Hayward on Thursday, a police sergeant said Friday.
Police responded to a report of a body found behind Mountain Mike’s Pizza in the 400 block of West Harder Road at 8:05 a.m., Sgt. Ryan Cantrell said.
Cantrell said the fire department declared him deceased at the scene and police are investigating the incident as a homicide.
"We do suspect foul play," Cantrell said.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim or the cause of death until an autopsy is completed and next of kin are notified.
The victim was a transient man who frequented Hayward, Cantrell said.
No suspects have been identified. Cantrell said it was the ninth homicide in Hayward this year.
