Man Found Guilty in Brutal Rape, Murder of Elderly Woman in 2012

A man accused of kidnapping and brutally raping an elderly woman who died of her injuries six months later is facing life in prison after a Contra Costa County jury Thursday found him guilty of murder and various sexual offenses.

Jane Doe was in serious medical distress when she was found at a Big O Tires on San Pablo Avenue in the early morning hours of Jan. 28, 2012.

Police have arrested a man who they say viciously beat and raped an elderly Richmond woman during her morning walk in 2012. Jodi Hernandez reports.

Richmond police were unable to identify a suspect in Doe's rape and murder until 2016, when 37-year-old Jonathan Jackson was picked up on a felony offense that required the state to collect a DNA sample that was later matched to the crime scene.

In addition to Doe's murder, Jackson was also convicted of kidnapping to commit rape, forcible rape and sexual penetration by a foreign object. He's facing a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole when he returns to court for sentencing Dec. 13.
