Man Holes up in San Jose Residence to Escape from Police After Firing a Gun at a Car

A standoff in the South Bay ended peacefully overnight.

According to San Jose police, a man fired his gun at a car near the intersection of East Capitol Expressway and McLaughlin Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officers tracked him to an East San Jose residence. Police initially thought the man had two hostages with him, but it turned out that he didn’t.

Officers tried to talk to the suspect and ask him to exit the house. But when that didn't work, they shot flashbang grenades into the house until he surrendered around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Neighbors were forced to evacuate but everyone has since been allowed to return home.
