A man was injured Wednesday night in Richmond in an officer-involved shooting following a foot pursuit with police.

Officers with the Richmond Police Department responded Wednesday at 7:53 p.m. to a report of a possibly intoxicated man with a gun in a store at 301 4th Street.

Police said the man was captured on a closed-circuit television camera pulling a gun from his waistband, and it appeared he loaded a bullet into the chamber of the gun.

Responding officers located the suspect, but he fled and led police on a foot pursuit, according to police.

During the pursuit, officers heard a gunshot in the area of where the suspect was last seen.

Police said a detective driving in the area located the suspect running toward him in the 500 block of Nevin Avenue, and the detective got out of his vehicle and fired several shots at the suspect.

The suspect was hit multiple times by gunfire and was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, according to police.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Investigators located a firearm and a high-capacity magazine at the scene, police said.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office is investigating the shooting.

No information about the suspect was immediately available Thursday morning.
