Man Killed While Trapped Under Fallen Tree in San Jose Identified

A man who died while trapped under a fallen tree Monday afternoon in San Jose has been identified as 69-year-old Xingzhu Shi of China, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

Fire crews responded to a report of a person pinned under a tree around 3:15 p.m. Monday at Berryessa Creek Park, located southwest of Piedmont Road and Cropley Avenue, fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said.

When firefighters arrived they found a man, later identified as Shi, trapped under a tree that measured about 2 to 3 feet in diameter, Salcido said.

They don't know how long Shi was under the tree and determined he died before they reached the scene, according to Salcido.
