The man was walking the tracks when he was stuck and killed Friday morning

A man who was fatally struck by a San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle on Friday morning has been identified as Aman Melles, 37, of Alameda County, according to the medical examiner's office.

Melles was walking on the tracks between the Montgomery and Embarcadero Muni Stations when he was struck and killed at about 7:26 a.m., fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

Muni service was suspended for several hours during the morning commute.

The incident remains under investigation.

The operator of the Muni light-rail vehicle has been placed on non-driving status and will undergo alcohol and drug testing, as is standard procedure, a spokesman said.
