Man in San Jose Custody Dies

A man arrested in San Jose on suspicion of DUI and drug possession  Sunday morning died while in custody, police said.
An officer stopped Ray Chiprez, 51, while he was driving near  Modred Drive and North White Road.
Police said Chiprez was seen committing a traffic violation and  failed to yield for a traffic stop for several blocks. He eventually stopped  in the 700 block of High Glen Drive.
The officer allegedly observed Chiprez displaying symptoms of  being under the influence of a stimulant and a search of the vehicle yielded  a bindle that the officer believed to be illegal narcotics, according to  police.
Chiprez was also allegedly driving on a suspended license, police  said.
He was arrested and taken to a holding cell at the processing  center. While there, Chiprez complained of stomach pain and requested an  ambulance, police said.
Chiprez was taken to Valley Medical Center where police said he  went into medical distress.
He was placed on life support and eventually taken off of life  support at the request of his family, according to police.
The cause of death is under investigation and police said the  arresting officer was placed on routine administrative leave.
