A Marin manufacturer has recalled two models of children's bicycles due to potentially hazardous handlebars.
Marin Mountain Bikes issued a voluntary recall to the Consumer Product Safety Commission on Tuesday for its 2014 MBX 50 and Tiny Trail Stem boys' and girls' bicycles with 16-inch knobby tires, according to Bicycle Retailer. The handlebar stems can loosen during motion and cause injury.
The recall notice provides the following description for the bikes: "The single speed bicycles have high-rise handlebars and training wheels. The boy's bicycles were sold in red and have serial number HA14980XXXXXX. The girl’s bicycles were sold in purple and have serial number HA14982XXXXXX. Serial numbers are printed on a foil label affixed to the underside of the base of the down tube. 'Marin' is printed on the seat and the downtube. 'Tiny Trail' or 'MBX 50' is printed on the bicycle's chain guard."
The bicycles were sold nationwide from September 2013 through December 2014 at a suggested retail price of $250.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has not received reports of any injuries relating to these bicycles, but Marin Mountain Bikes suggests that consumers stop using the bicycles and contact the company for a replacement handlebar stem.
