Marin Cliffside Fishing Trip Turns Fatal

An afternoon of fishing along the Marin Headlands turned deadly when a man fell from a steep cliff into the ocean.

Authorities say the man was fishing from the bluffs near Rodeo Beach when he fell off the edge of a bluff and plunged about 40 feet into the water around 3:20 p.m. Saturday.

Park Service Ranger George Durgerian says a Marin County Sheriff's Department rescue boat pulled the man from the water, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the man has not been released. Because the area is administered by the National Park Service, the death is being investigated by the U.S. Park Police.
