    Marin County officials have compiled data on the demographics of the county government workforce in order to improve the workforce's diversity.

    An "interactive dashboard" was posted this week on the county's website and contains data for each year from 2013 to 2017.

    Charts present a departmental breakdown about the ethnicity, gender and age ranges of the county's workforce.

    The data show the percentage of Latino, Asian and undeclared workers is growing, the percentage of white workers is declining, and the percentage of African-American workers has been mostly flat with a slight increase in 2017, county officials said.

    In 2017, the workforce was 9.5 percent Asian, 5.4 percent African-American, 17.2 percent Hispanic and 65.3 percent non-Hispanic white, down from 71.5 percent in 2013.

    The county's workforce in 2017 was 56.6 percent female, up two percent over the five-year span.

    In 2017, 18.2 percent of county workers were 25 to 34 years old, 23.1 percent were 35 and 44, 28.2 percent were 55 to 64 and 7.5 percent were 65 and older, a slight increase from 6.8 in 2013.

    The data that make up the dashboard are contained in raw form on Marin County Open Data, which was launched last year. The information there ranges from results on food safety inspections to emergency medical response rates to kindergarten immunization rates.

    The data archive is available at data.marincounty.org. Marin County Open Data is a tool to improve diversity in the county's workforce, Roger Crawford, the county's equal opportunityemployment director said.

    "We have talked a lot in recent years about it, but it's not enough just to set goals," Crawford said.

    Clear and transparent data will promote accountability and show where the county needs to focus or adjust its efforts toward that end, Crawford said.

    Marin County's Department of Information Services and Technology collaborated with the Department of Human Resources to compile the information and put it online.
