The Marin County Sheriff's Office has identified a suspect in a shooting murder in Marin City this month as 34-year-old Joseph Montgomery.

Montgomery is suspected of killing 34-year-old Jermaine Kennedy outside an apartment at 79 Cole Drive around 1 a.m. on May 10.

Kennedy was shot while attending a memorial service for a family friend who died as a result of a shooting two weeks earlier in the Sacramento area, Lt. Doug Pittman said. He was shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen and died during surgery at Marin General Hospital, Pittman said.

Montgomery is 5 feet 4 inches and 150 pounds and has family in Marin City, San Jose, Vallejo and Santa Rosa, Lt. Jamie Scardina said.

The sheriff's office has not recovered the murder weapon, Scardina said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff's office at 415-473-7265.
