Firefighters Saturday morning have gained the upper hand on a wildfire that has burned about an acre of a remote, hilly area above Fairfax in Marin County, a fire battalion chief said.
Marin County fire Battalion Chief Mike Giannini said the "Bolinas Fire" is now 50 percent contained after fire crews worked throughout the night in a rugged watershed area near Fairfax-Bolinas Road.
Crews first responded to a report of a fire in the trees along the Bolinas-Fairfax ridgeline between Kent and Alpine lakes just after 9 p.m. Friday, according to the chief.
Cool temperatures overnight helped firefighters tame the fire in the tough terrain, Giannini said.
The chief said the area's dense vegetation "makes it difficult to access and subsequently extinguish all of the hot spots."
No injuries have been reported and there are no buildings in the area, authorities said.

Crews from Marin County, Ross Valley, Bolinas Volunteer fire departments, and Cal Fire are battling the blaze.
The California Highway Patrol and Marin County Sheriff's Office are providing traffic and air support for the fire crews.
UPDATE: Marin County Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Giannini said he is confident fire crews will get full control of the fire sometime Saturday.
