Mayor Schaaf, Oakland City Officials Take Oath of Office

Mayor Libby Schaaf and other Oakland elected officials will be sworn in Monday during inaugural events planned at City Hall.

Schaaf will take the oath of office for her second term at 11 a.m., along with City Auditor Courtney Ruby; city council members Nikki Fortunato Bas, Sheng Thao, and Loren Taylor; and school board members Aimee Eng, Gary Yee and Shanthi Gonzales.

The ceremony is free and open to the public but space is limited.

Later in the week, the Mayor's Inaugural Gala will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Fox Theater, 1807 Telegraph Ave. A dinner will be held at the Fox Theater to benefit Oakland Promise, which helps to give Oakland school children resources and skills for college and careers.

A dance party will be held at a party tent near the Fox Theater, to benefit Keep Oakland Housed, a homeless prevention program.

Other events include a free community festival, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts, 1428 Alice St.
