Michael Crabtree Wants to Connect With Alex Smith

After two seasons with the 49ers, Michael Crabtree has yet to play a preseason game.

Over the last two years, the former No. 10 overall draft pick has made a habit of missing training camps and practices as well.

Now when the league looks destined to miss its entire off season workout programs and possibly even a preseason, Crabtree is showing up early to work out with his teammates.

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows reports that Crabtree has landed in the Bay Area and is joining a growing list of 49ers -- and soon to be 49ers, a la Alex Smith -- working out in the South Bay.

Smith is leading a group of 49ers players through daily work outs and some route running from head coach Jim Harbaugh's playbook.

Crabtree's arrival is sure to turn some fans and player's opinions of him. Last week veteran tight end and team leader Vernon Davis went on KNBR radio and confirmed that a fight during training camp last season between him and Crabtree centered around the receiver's work ethic.

Crabtree had been working out in his native Dallas.
