Michelle Obama Returns to SF, Seeking Cash

Michelle Obama returns to the Bay Area on Friday for a fundraiser in San Francisco.

Ready the bags of money: First lady Michelle Obama is coming back to San Francisco, and she's looking for zeroes -- as in the zeroes at the end of $35,800, the campaign donations Obama will be asking of well-heeled Democrats at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco on Friday.

After her visit to Golden Gate Park, Obama will head to Alameda on Saturday to commission a new Coast Guard vessel.

Oakland-based band PopLyfe will play at the Friday event, tickets for which start at $500, with a $5,000 entry fee for a picture with the first lady, and a later picture with President Barack Obama on his next visit to the Bay Area.

And who says Republicans have a monopoly on the family? Friday is the kickoff of the "Families for Obama" initiative, according to the Bay Area News Group, and the photos with both Obamas are family photos.

Take that, Santorum.

The new Coast Guard cutter Obama will christen on Saturday is named after Dorothy Stratton, who directed the Coast Guard Women's Reserve during World War II, according to the newspaper. The boat goes on active duty following the ceremony.

After the Bay Area, Obama travels on to Los Angeles, where she'll present an award to Taylor Swift on the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
