Missing Service Dog Found Safe, Reunited With Owner

Archie, a service dog that went missing five days ago, has been found.

The dog’s owner, Kerrin Lanahan, said she and Archie were riding home on BART after an SPCA fundraiser when the dog went missing. Archie was in a carrier next to Lanahan and somewhere between San Francisco and San Bruno, Lanahan said she dozed off.  When she woke up Archie and the carrier were gone.

Monday, police received an anonymous tip -- an address -- of where the dog had been seen. Police went there and found the dog and then checked his microchip.

The dog’s owner, Kerrin Lanahan, says her Pomeranian was recovered within six hours of getting the tip. However, the five days of waiting were extremely difficult.

"He's my service animal and he's everything,” Lanahan said. “He goes everywhere with me, so it was completely devastating and a living nightmare.”

But a nightmare no longer.  Archie was reunited with his owner Monday afternoon.

BART police are still investigating.
