Mission Apartment Building Where Deadly Fire Occurred Had Years of Safety Violations: Report

The Mission District apartment building where a fire killed one and left dozens homeless in January had several safety violations in recent years.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, fire inspectors found missing fire extinguishers, blocked escapes, and smoke alarms with no batteries. But the problems were never fixed.

Fire officials said the building passed fire inspection in 2014 due to sloppy paperwork by the fire department.

City leaders, along with fire officials, are reviewing fire safety standards.
