Lockdown Lifted at Mission College in Santa Clara

Mission College in Santa Clara was briefly on lockdown Thursday afternoon. Students were warned via text message to “silence phones” and turn “lights off.”

Campus police confirmed to NBC Bay Area the campus was on lockdown as of about 12:45 p.m. The lockdown was lifted shortly after 1 p.m., Santa Clara police confirmed.

Officers were responding to a report of a person with a weapon on campus at 3000 Mission College Blvd. Police said they determined the report was unfounded.

In an unrelated incident, West Valley College, Mission College's sister school 11 miles away in Saratoga, was also shut down today becauseof a water main break, Moore said.
