Monterey County Fair to Bring 5 Days of Fun, Food and Competition

The 82nd annual Monterey County Fair begins Thursday morning, inviting locals to "Shake Your Tail Feathers" all weekend with art, music, food and entertainment.

Attractions this year include the "Flying U" rodeo, the band War, which is famous for the song "Low Rider, a hypnotist, pony rides, live tree-carving, juggling and more, in addition to the annual baking, art and livestock competitions.

Fair organizers expect attendance of over 75,000 people, and said their mission is to create unique programming that celebrates the talents of Monterey County.

Over 29 carnival rides are available for fair-goers, including the Century Wheel, the largest-ever Ferris wheel set up at the Monterey County Fair, according to organizers.

George Strait Tribute, Journey Revisited, Left of Centre and Razzvio will also perform on the main stage, free with paid admission.

The fair runs through Sept. 3 at 2004 Fairground Road and admission is free for all children under five years old. Admission for adults is $10, children get in for $5 and cheaper tickets are available online.

Free transportation on Monterey-Salinas Transit is available by showing bus operators a ticket receipt.
