Motorcyclist Dies in Livermore

The police officer wasn't dispatched to the scene, he was there ahead of any 911 call.

A Livermore police officer tried to help a motorcycle crash victim just after midnight Wednesday, but it was too late.

Daniel Vanderhoofven, 30, of Livermore died at the scene, according to police; the officer couldn't revive him from his life-threatening injuries.

Police said the preliminary investigation shows that Vanderhoffven failed to negotiate a curve in the road, which caused his motorcycle to jump the curve and hit a sound wall.

The Livermore Police Department Traffic Unit would like to talk to anyone who witnessed the crash. You can call Officer Dave Boyes at (925) 371-4896.

Livermore police said in 2011 there were two fatal collisions involving motorcycles and in both cases excessive speed was a factor.
